Looking at concept art for blockbusters can give fans insight to a film they thought they knew everything about. So, of course, it would only make sense for Doctor Strange to have some rather mind-bending artwork that leaves fans scratching their heads. After the trippy flick premiered last year, streams of concept sketches and designs have hit the Internet, but few are as transformative as Andy Park’s latest social media share.

Over on Instagram, the Marvel Studios artist took a moment to share concept art he doodled for Doctor Strange. The piece he shared is of Dormammu, and fans are feeling floored by the artwork’s unique tone. In the film, the Dark Dimension creature was mostly a morphing cloud of powerful energy, but Park originally imagined Dormammu as a humanoid figure. Gifted with a face and torso, the archaic picture has a certain gravitas that reminds fans of feared gods from ancient Egypt. And, with the artwork’s red coloring, Park’s version of Dormammu certainly looks terrifying enough that even Doctor Strange might have hesitated to make a bargain with the beast.

Here’s what Andy Park had to say about the stunning concept art:

“While working at Marvel Studios there’s been a few times we did a quick blast design session as a group to get some ideas out. “30 minutes GO!” This is my 30 minute Dormammu design in the beginning of the project.”
