5 Marvel Shows That Could Debut On Disney’s Streaming Service in 2019

When Iron Man hit the silver screen in 2008, few people knew what was in store. Nearly ten years, 17 movies, and 14 seasons of television shows later, Marvel Entertainment has masterfully crafted the Marvel Cinematic Universe, arguably the biggest entertainment outfit in the business.

Disney — the parent company behind Marvel, Star Wars, and other titans of industry — made a splash a few weeks back when they announced they would be entertaining the rapidly-expanding world of online streaming services, competing with the likes of Netflix and Amazon Video.

While we’ve known that the MCU movies and TV shows would be moving over to Disney‘s new streaming service sometime in 2019, today’s Disney investors call was the first time we really got confirmation that Disney would be developing original content for their new service — which makes the utmost sense, right?

According to Ben Fritz — a journalist at the Wall Street Journal — Disney was creating a slew of original content for the streaming service, including a live-action Star Wars series in addition to shows featuring other Disney properties like Marvel, Monsters Inc. and, wait for it, High School Musical.

Now that we have confirmation that original Marvel content will be premiering on the new streaming service, it’s about time we do some speculation as to what the show(s) could be.

New Warriors

As of this writing, Marvel’s New Warriors might be the most obvious choice.  Helmed by Cougar Town alum Kevin Biegel, New Warriors was originally ordered to a ten-episode first by Freeform, the recently-rebranded ABC Family.

The series went ahead and filmed the pilot and in an odd twist of fate, the pilot reportedly tested so well that Marvel TV asked Freeform permission to place it on another network.

Although the show is currently without a network, it’s only a matter of time before we find out where we’ll be able to see Squirrel Girl (Milana Vayntrub), Mr. Immortal (Derek Theler), and company make their live action debuts.

While it might make sense for Disney to debut a fresh new property on their fresh new streaming service — in contrast to having a new season of an existing show, like Agents of SHIELD season six — New Warriors could find it’s home alongside Runaways at Hulu, a company partially owned by ABC and in turn, the House of Mouse.

Moon Knight

Marc Spector.  Now, say it louder for the people in the back.  Marc.  Spector.

I can’t be the only one that’s in disbelief that the Fist of Khonshu has yet to receive his own series.  While the character fits perfectly in with what Jeph Loeb & Co. have created on Netflix, there’s still some questions whether or not Marvel will continue having shows on the OG streaming service once their own app goes live.

Moon Knight most certainly has a large enough cult following to warrant getting his own show and it’s one of those characters that it’s a “when” — not “if” — scenario.

We’ll see Spector, Frenchie, Crawley, & Co. sometime, it just depends on where we’ll be able to see them.

White Tiger

Angela del Toro is one of the biggest characters who’s been name-dropped — but yet to be seen — in the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We found out that del Toro — who goes by White Tiger in the comics — existed in the MCU thanks to Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) mentioning to Luke Cage (Mike Colter) that he should seek out her help as she was a leading private investigator in New York City.

del Toro’s comic origin revolves around the Jade Tiger, a mystical article hailing from none other than K’un-L’un.  Viewers of the MCU shows on Netflix are now well aware of that mystical city, thanks to Danny Rand (Finn Jones).

Her origin plays close enough to that of Iron Fist, it’d make more sense to fit this character in with those shows on Netflix.  But then again, we’re still not sure what the relationship between Netflix and Disney will look like as we move closer into 2019.

Darkhawk

This suggestion is completely out of left field but, then again, the Guardians of the flarkin’ Galaxy are one of the MCU’s most prosperous properties.

Although the character has been involved in many cosmic adventures throughout the pages of the Marvel Comicsverse as of recent, Chris Powell’s origin was in line with a lot of the street-level characters we’ve seen receive shows the past few years.

Possessing an amulet that allows him to transfer his consciousness into an android-like body, Darkhawk went toe-to-toe with a lot of the same villains as Spider-Man and Daredevil did.  Bad guys along the lines of Tombstone and Venom, to name a few.

Where it gets interesting — Powell has spent some time fighting crime as a member of the New Warriors.  He started off as a teenage character full of angst so if either Runaways or Joe Pokaski’s Cloak and Dagger make the jump to the new Disney service, Darkhawk would fit right in.

Dust off those Darkhawk #1’s — it’s time to make Darkhawk great again.

The ABC Shows

I had mentioned before that it’d probably be best for Disney to launch their new streaming service with never-before-seen properties.  But when it comes to the shows we’ve seen on ABC — Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Inhumans — Marvel and the House of Mouse might not have a choice if they want to see the shows continue.

Although Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has increase in quality over it’s four seasons, ratings fell flat last season — to the point where Disney reportedly had to force ABC to pick it up another season.

As for Inhumans, it’s not secret that show has been a critical and commercial failure for both ABC and IMAX.

Either way, both of the shows have an uphill battle to get renewed by ABC and since they both have sizable audiences, they very well could continue — either in their current form are as a Secret Warriors-esque mashup — on the new Disney service.
