13 Reasons Why and Teen Wolf actor Henry Zaga will indeed play Sunspot in the New Mutants movie, according to both Variety and The Tracking Board.
For anyone following news on the upcoming film, this isn’t a surprise. On Sunday, EW reported that their sources had informed them that the Brazalian actor would play Sunspot and that confirmation would come soon enough.

Zaga joins a cast that features Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, who has the ability to create a jet-like explosion that propels him through the air; The Witch and Split star Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, who has teleportation powers and is a master of mystic arts; Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, who has the ability to transform into a wolf of a werewolf-like form; and Rosario Dawson as Dr. Cecillia Reyes, a mutant with a protective forcefield.
Created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, Roberto da Costa/Sunspot first appeared in Marvel Graphic Novel #4: The New Mutants (September 1982). The Brazilian mutant, who is known as hot-head and a ladies man, possesses the ability to absorb and channel solar power. His powers first manifested at the age of fourteen when an oppossing player knocked him to the ground while playing in a championship soccer match.
New Mutants is looking to begin production in early-July. The film is being directed by Josh Boone, based on a script he co-wrote with Knate Gwaltney. Longtime X-Men franchise producer Simon Kingberg will produce with Karen Rosenfelt.
New Mutants is scheduled for release on April 13, 2018.
