Between Marvel Studios and Marvel TV, the people at the House of Ideas are all about innovation and putting forth the most creative product possible. That reigned especially true this past winter as the TV branch of the company released Agents of SHIELD: Slingshot, a six-part digital mini-series released entirely online — of which, the longest episode was just six minutes long.

Now, Marvel has another award to add to the trophy case as Slingshot has won a Webby Award for ‘Drama: Long Form or Series.’ It should be noted that the Webby Awards focus strictly on digital-only projects, and the awards organization considers anything with a run-time over five minutes “long form.”
According to the Webbys (via MCU Exchange), a long form drama consists of “serial content dedicated to dramatic material premiered on the Internet. Entries must consist of one or more episodes over 5 minutes in total to qualify for this category…”
Slingshot saw actress Natalia Cordova-Buckley reprise her role as Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez, as she runs into a moral dilemma trying to complete a mission on her after she was required to sign the Sokovia Accords, thanks to the events during Captain America: Civil War.
The digital series also saw Clark Gregg, Chloe Benet, Jason O’Mara, Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, and Henry Simmons all reprise their roles from the main Agents of SHIELD show.
With Marvel now winning awards for creating digital shorts — the entire run time for the whole digital series was just around half an hour — it seems as if it’d be a new way the company could build character development for some of the lesser known characters involved in their property, while keeping costs low and allowing everything to remain in canon.
“All The Madame’s Men” premieres tonight (Tuesday) at 10p EST on ABC.
