In a world filled with superhero movies, Sony is striking out to start its own cinematic universe. This summer, the studio will see Spider-Man rebooted into another franchise with Tom Holland at the head. Sony partnered with Marvel Studios to get the film off the ground, and fans have responded positively to the web-slinging hero’s new outing. However, the vigilante is not the only hero Sony is eyeing these days. Just ask Black Cat and Silver Sable.

Earlier this month, news broke that Sony was looking to develop a solo feature starring the femme fatales. Reports surfaced that a film was getting underway at the company, and a familiar screenwriter from the Thor franchise was attached. Now, thanks to one production source, fans have learned Sony is reportedly eyeing a film date for the movie – and it’s a lot closer than you’d think.

As reported by My Entertainment World, it seems like Sony is tentatively wanting to being production on the untitled Black Cat, Silver Sable film this fall. The supposed timeframe aligns with other reports about Venom, another spinoff feature that Sony is looking into. The Hollywood Reporter suggests the latter feature will start filming this year and likely aim for an R-rating. The site also writes that Sony is looking to turn these standalone films into the start of a full-fledged universe. So, if the projects are to film together, it would give the studio greater oversight of that franchise’s direction.

Sony has not provided any comment about the reported production timeframe, but fans are interested to see how Black Cat and Silver Sable are introduced. So far, sources have stressed the ladies’ film and Venom would not be attached to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in any way, leading some to wonder how the characters would thrive. As more details come out, fans will be able to better envision how Sony intends to use these two spinoffs as tentpoles for their future.

So, if he’s listening, Spider-Man better watch out. The friendly neighborhood hero is going to be getting some competition sooner rather than later.
