Yesterday we shared a new photo from Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot film, Spider-Man: Homecoming. The image depicted Peter Parker (Tom Holland) applying his spider-based superpowers to the task of getting out of school (literally).

Well, as it turns out, that image isn’t just iconic because of the long line of Spider-Man comic book history it invokes: it’s actually a great segue to a different scene in the film – one that contains a big Easter egg homage to another famous movie about skipping school!
Peter Parker’s Day Off…
The scene in question is actually an ode to John Hughes’ classic coming of age movie,ย Ferris Bueller’sย Day Off!
During the climax ofย Bueller, Ferris (Matthew Broderick) has to race through this suburban neighborhood on foot, in order to make it home before his parents and relentless school principal get there first. The scene is most memorable for its use of the The English Beat’sย song, “March of the Swivel Heads,” as Ferris hops a fence in a hilariously ’80s moment of slow-motion action, shown from multiple angles.ย
Asย Screen Rant learned during its visit to theย Spider-Man: Homecomingย set, co-producer Eric Carroll and director Jon Watts wanted that moment to be a special delight for movie fans:ย
“They go through this great Ferris Bueller-inspired chase through this neighborhood, where these guys from the Shocker, they got in one good clock. Spider-Man was not expecting that. So they get a jump on him, they tear off, and Spider-Man gives chase. It’s a lot of fun. He’s running through people’s backyards, he’s encountering friendly dogs, things like that. We think it’s going to be one of the signature sequences in the film.”ย
Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has already established the charming, rascally, quality that makes him a great Spider-Man – but he wouldn’t be too shabby starring inย aย Ferris Buellerย remake, either. In any event, it sounds likeย Spider-Man: Homecomingย is going to be a a lot of fun, in addition to being a great Marvel action flick.ย
