New Spider-Man: Homecoming Concept Art Highlights Ned & Peter

When Spider-Man: Homecoming hit theaters last month, it reinvented the titular web-slinger for a new generation. Making that ambitious task happen required quite a bit of planning – including some awesome new concept art.

Ryan Meinerding, who has served on the visual development team for many of Marvel’s films, recently shared two pieces of concept art he created for the film. The first shows Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) discovering Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) secret identity. The second piece of art embodies the scene where Peter eats a sandwich from a fire escape.

The first concept art shows rather different circumstances than what resulted onscreen, with Peter taking off his mask in front of a large mirror while Ned drinks what appears to be a Capri Sun in the background. Within Homecoming, Peter crawled into his room, not realizing that Ned was already there with his LEGO Death Star.

The second piece, on the other hand, looks almost exactly the same to what audiences saw onscreen, just from a different angle. Both definitely capture the general essence of the scene – illustrating the role that concept art often has in a film’s production.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
