Reviving a character comes with a cost. For Elektra, the Marvel character existing in the Netflix universe, her Defenders revival after being killed off in the second season of Daredevil will see a whole new take on the character.

Elektra will go from aiding a man she loved dearly to fighting him when The Defenders rolls around, completely swapping allegiances and working for the villainous Alexandra (played by Sigourney Weaver). Elektra actress Elodie Yung shared a bit of perspective while speaking to ComicBook.com at San Diego Comic Con.

“One day, you die in the arms of your loved one…” Yung said of returning to the role. “And I was kind of a good person at the end of Daredevil, and then I come back here, and I’m going to be in other arms this time, and everything’s going to go more dark and violent, for me. So it was just interesting to know that I will be able to play the same character, but at the same time a character who completely forgot who she was, and had to build from there. It’s exciting, it was just brand new. Everything was very new.”

Yung does enjoy playing both the heroic sidekick and villainous versions of the character. “You know I think in both of those versions, I don’t think she’s 100% good or 100% bad, and that’s what I like about Elektra, she’s a complex woman, and we all have goodness and bad things in us, and I enjoyed both,” Yung said.

“She was very mischievous, even when she was good,” Weaver added.

“I feel like Alexandra tried very hard to be a mentor to Elektra, and if they had come to work for me, I would’ve wanted to mentor their characters, because they’re good people,” Weave said. “They’re flawed, but they are all very talented. I think Alexandra’s such a smart business person, she can see right away that despite certain liabilities that they bring a lot of talent and charisma, and that they could be very useful to her, but you know, we all sort of disagree.”
