In a flashback, Thunderbird is canvassing to raise money for those affected by the 7/15 incident. A man yells at him for daring to raise money for mutants after that incident. Thunderbird points out that he was a Marine who fought to defend the United States. A truck drives by and throws a pipe bomb. Thunderbird picks it up and throws it to where it can explode without hurting anybody.

In the present day, Eclipse tells Thunderbird that there are reports of Sentinel Services using mutants to hunt other mutants. Eclipse has a lead and wants to break into the federal building at Baton Rouge. Thunderbird agrees.

Andy and Lauren comment on how many more refugees have arrived a the hideout since they showed up. A boy named Wes strikes up a conversation with her. When she says she has work to do, he creates an illusion that her work is already done.

Caitlin is performing a medical checkup on a young mutant. The boy’s blood pressure is high. He says he uses his powers multiple times a day, whenever he needs to find food.

Polaris is observing another mutant who has the ability to move and shape water. Polaris tells her she’s going to get training. Caitlin is taken aback, but Polaris says they’re being hunted and need to be ready for combat.

Thunderbird asks Blink for help with getting into the federal building. Blink is angry that Thunderbird allowed Dreamer to continue her deception so that he could continue using her powers. They argue until Blink decides to leave the underground. She opens a portal and vanishes.

Thunderbird organizes a team of mutants and explains that they’re now taking the fight to the those who have been hunting them. Reed tells them what he knows, which isn’t much. Without Blink, they need another way inside. Andy volunteers.

Act II

The group packs to leave. Caitlin is wondering if it’s a good idea to let Andy leave. Reed says it may be a chance for him to reconnect with Andy. Caitlin still isn’t happy about it.

Lauren watches from the window. She explains how she’s feeling to Wes.

Agent Turner shows up at work. He’s still heated and exhausted after re-learning about his daughter’s death. He’s supposed to be on mandatory leave but refuses to go home. Turner calls Roderick Campbell.

Reed tries to talk to Andy about what’s happened. Andy tells him that the whole reason the bullies came after him that night was that Reed and Caitlin went to speak to the principal. They’re interrupted when the truck where they’re hiding is pulled over by police. Eclipse triesย to hide them by absorbing all of the light in the truck. The officer looks inside but doesn’t see anything.

Act III

Dreamer talks to Thunderbird about Blink. Thunderbird is also still blaming himself for what happened to Pulse, and wonders if the X-Men made a mistake when they chose him to be a part of the Underground. Dreamer tells him that he was chosen for a reason and reminds him that “the X-Men saidย a war is coming.” Thunderbird points out that the X-Men didn’t say they’d win.

The truck group decides to stay off the road for the night since there’s a lot of police on the roads. Reed asks Andy if his powers hurt. Andy explains it doesn’t, its closer to yelling. When Andy says his powers feel good when he uses them, Reed starts arguing with him about using good judgment.

Back at the base, Caitlin explains to Shatter that she wants to start a school for the kids in the Mutant Underground. They have lots of schoolbooks since Sentinel Services used to like to grab entire families when they were picking the kids up from school.

Polaris begins training some of the young mutants, including Lauren and Wes. Caitlin interrupts, taking exception to Polaris training her daughter. She pulls Lauren out of the group.

In the truck, back on the road, Eclipse talks to Reed about how things went with Andy. They also talk about fatherhood, and whether they each ever wanted to be fathers. Reed always did, but Eclipse is unsure. Reed offers encouragement.

Dr. Campbell arrives in Turner’s office. He’s had Turner reinstated. A Hound is with Campbell. Since they’re now working together, Campbell wants access to the Strucker file. Turner agrees.

Act IV

Eclipse contacts Polaris when they arrive at the federal building. It’s better guarded than they expected.

Caitlin talks to Polaris about the training. Caitlin wants to look towards the future, after the fighting, and wants to give them a sense of normalcy. Polaris says they’re more powerful than the mutants they normally see, and that this is their new normal.

Lauren and Wes continue to talk, discussing Caitlin’s reaction to their training. Lauren reveals to him that she was hiding her powers for a long time. Wes creates the illusion that they’re in Florence, or at least he thinks he does. Lauren points out that it’s actually Rome he’s created.

Eclipse, Reed, and Andy enter a garage that shares a wall with the federal building. Andy uses his powers to create an opening in the wall, but it sets off several car alarms. Andy tries to enter, but Reed insists he sticks to the plan and return to the truck.

Reed and Eclipse head inside. They find the judge’s office that they’re looking for. Eclipse burns his way in. Reed gathers the files on mutants that are inside. Eclipse tries to burn out the hard drives to take with them. Eclipse burns the evidence in the room overย Reed’s protests.

Act V

Thunderbird brings news that more refugees are on the way to the already overcrowded Underground hideout. Dreamer and Thunderbird discuss what happened with Blink. She tells him that everything that happened with Pulse and Blink is okay and he needs to move forward. They kiss. He says he can’t, but they continue until Eclipse calls, interrupting them. Eclipse tells him there’s been a cop tailing them. Reed tells Thunderbird to search for alerts. He finds one, suggesting they know that the mutants are coming.

The group at the hideout discuss how they can get the others out of the police trap. Lauren suggests using Wes’ย illusion powers. She insists on going with them, and Caitlin reluctantly agrees.

Polaris, Lauren, and Wes find a high vantage point and see the cops laying out their trap. Polaris tells Eclipse to make sure the driver does not stop and says she’ll do the rest. Polaris wants Lauren to use her shields to give the truck something to drive over to get past the barricade. Meanwhile, Wes will create the biggest illusion he’s ever attempted.

Andy gets angry and begins shaking the truck. Reed calms him down, saying they need to act like a team and let Polaris and her group do their part.

Sentinel Services issues as a warning, but the truck keeps driving. Polaris uses her powers to lift the truck. Lauren creates a shield ramp allowing the truck to lift over the barricade. Wes creates an illusion that shows the truck going in two different directions, each one not the way the real truck went.

Act VI

The Gifted 106 21

Jace Turner debriefs a group of agents on what happened with the federal building. He makes it clear that he no longer cares about court orders, he just wants the job done.

Back at the base, Reed and Caitlin reminisce about law school. She gives him a ring she found to replace his wedding ring. They kiss.

Reed sits down to talk to Andy. He tells him that he’s always been proud of him and that he wants to hear anything Andy has to say.

Eclipse gets a call from Carmen that night, wanting to call in her first favor since helping him get Polaris back.
