Speaking at the Supanova convention in Australia, Thor: Ragnarok star Chris Hemsworth said that Marvel’s third Thor movie will give Asgard “a bit of a makeover.”
That makeover may come at the hands of Hela, the freed goddess of the Norse underworld of Hel, played by Cate Blanchett. Judging by the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok and the synopsis, it sounds like Hela will be leading the charge to conquer and destroy Asgard and it seems like she may be pretty successful at it.
It probably doesn’t help that the treacherous Loki is sitting on the throne of Asgard disguised as the All-Father, Odin. Loki is fated to play a key role in Ragnarok, the ultimate destruction of the world of the Norse gods. Perhaps that destruction begins in Asgard.

In Marvel Studio’s Thor Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarokโthe destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilizationโat the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first, he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avengerโthe Incredible Hulk!
Thor: Ragnarok is inspired by the classic The Mighty Thor comics of Walt Simonson and the Incredible Hulk storyline “Planet Hulk” by Greg Pak, Carlo Pagulayan and Aaron Lopresti. “Planet Hulk” saw Hul shot into space by several of Marvel’s biggest heroes. Though they intended him to land on an uninhabited planet where he could live out his days peacefully, he instead landed on Sakaar, a planet ruled by a cruel emperor. There, Hulk was forced to fight in a gladiatorial arena until he and his Warbound banded together to overthrow the emperor in an armed insurrection.
Thor Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi from a screenplay by Eric Pearson and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.
Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
