Now it’s UFC fighter and Dancing With the Stars veteran Paige VanZant’s turn.
“I would love that,” VanZant told FOX Sports of a superhero role. “That would be huge to be a Marvel character, be a superhero or be somebody that’s a bad ass and it would be a girl, too, so I would love to get in a show like that. I am aspiring to be an actress, too, so if that comes my way I will definitely hold out hope for that.”
Look out for fans to get excited about the idea. It’s almost like clockwork at this point. While it’s not uncommon for athletes, models, and other people whose job is to be fit and badass to get mentioned in superhero and other big action roles, it seems like WWE superstars on the men’s side and UFC fighters on the women’s side really tend to get fanboys and fangirls excited — presumably because they tend to look so much like they were torn from the pages of a comic book.
VanZant didn’t mention who she’d like to play — likely becuase the question came from FOX Sports and was not a spontaneous thought on her part, so it’s unlikely she had a particular idea in mind.
The story also notes that VanZant was already offered — and declined, for scheduling reasons — a role in a Kickboxer sequel. That’s just the kind of thing that tends to be offered to actors to get them warmed up for a real run at bigger things: both Rousey and Gina Carano were offered roles that basically were “be yourself, fight, and we’ll see what happens next” before they ended up in bigger tentpole movies.
