After yesterday’s report that Fox’s latest Marvel movie will be shooting in Boston, a new posting to a production website states that X-Men spinoff the New Mutants will begin filming this summer.

After a string of hits (with one Apocalyptic miss) between Logan and Deadpool, Fox is going back to the PG-13 well with their next film in the X-Men franchise.

The listing comes courtesy of My Entertainment World (via Omega Underground) and states that X-Men: The New Mutants will start shooting June 4 in Massachusetts. This goes along with director Josh Boone’s location scouting in Boston, as shared on social media.

Omega Underground postulated a month ago that a casting report for a film with the production title “Teen Spirit” was actually the sequel to X-Men: Apocalypse, which also received a working title X-Men: Supernova.

Well, it turns out that Teen Spirit could be the production title for Boone’s New Mutants film instead.

โ€จThat casting call lists the production will begin June 4 and end in October.

All of these listings line up, as X-Men: Supernova only seemed to have a rumored director in Simon Kinberg, the long-time producer without directing experience. He himself confirmed that there were only discussions of him directing the next film in the main X-Men series, and that nothing had been finalized. Without a script or director attached, it’s impossible to buy that such a film will begin production this summer.

Which all lends to the thought that the New Mutants will be the next film to hit screens in Fox’s long-running mutant-focused franchise.

Deadpool 2 recently delayed production but has announced major casting additions in the form of Zazie Beetz as Domino and former Goonies star Josh Brolin as the gun-toting time traveler Cable.

No casting notices have been made for The New Mutants aside from James McAvoy and Sophie Turner’s confirmations that they’re participating in another X-Men production this year, but given the younger makeup of the team it’s not unbelievable that lesser known actors have been approached already.

We expect to learn more as production for the New Mutants kicks off this summer.
