According to Deadline, Cordova-Buckley’s Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez will be one of the season’s main characters once the show kicks off later this fall.

The brains behind the production — executive producers Jed Whedon, Mauriss Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell — spoke very highly of the actress while making the announcement.

“Natalia is a powerhouse in her work and in her daily life, and she has imbued one of our favorite characters with her natural strength and humor,” the crew said of Cordova-Buckley. “Natalia was instantly a part of the S.H.I.E.L.D. family the first day she walked onto set, and we’re happy she’s now an official member of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team.”

Originally appearing on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as one of the show’s NuHumans, Yo-Yo Rodriguez has been a part of the show since season three’s “Bouncing Back” episode. After joining the Quake-led Secret Warriors squad, Cordova-Buckley reprised her role as Yo-Yo Rodriguez in the Emmy-nominated Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot — a digital miniseries released in December of last year.

The announcement comes a few days before the much-anticipated New York Comic Con panel featuring much of the cast and crew. As the show skipped this year’s San Diego Comic Con, fans should be in for a rather large treat with Coulson and company take the stage at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

Agents of SHIELD will return to ABC in its new Friday night time slot this winter, replacing Marvel’s Inhumans once the new series’ first season has finished airing.
