The summer movie season for 2017 has nearly begun, kicking off a huge wave of films that are set to do a number on theater box offices all the way to the end of the year.

Though Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will kick off the month next month with its May 5 release, another space-fairing tale will release just two weeks laterโ€”albeit, it’ll be decidedly more horrifying.

Alien: Covenant sets to continue the story director Ridley Scott began with Prometheus. The new movie starts Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, and Michael Fassbender who journey across the cosmos in a new settlement ship to establish new lives on a distant planet. But things don’t turn out very well for the settlers, as is wont to happen in the Alien franchise.

Empire just unveiled the subscriber variant to this month’s issue of the magazine, set to hit newsstands on the 20th. But this version will be exclusive to subs and showcases Scott’s next horrific sci-fi tale.

The cover also quotes the original Alien movie with this line from the character Ash:

Unclouded by conscience, remorse or delusions of reality.

The embossed cardboard cover by Jacey depicts the xenomorph, surprising as the new film will feature the sister-race of neomorphs as the main terrifying monsters.

Maybe this cover hints that the upcoming film will actually have a closer tie to the original Alien than anticipatedโ€”it’s already a well-known fact that Scott is attempting to bridge the gap between Prometheus and Alien with a new series of films. But he also said it will be at least three more movies until we get there.

With the previously released footage regarding one of Fassbender’s characters, David, and his arrival to the planet the Covenant ship later makes its way to, this Alien movie is shaping up to be a great entry and a true return to form.

We’ll find out more when Alien: Covenant releases in theaters May 19.

Director Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world โ€” whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

The cast features Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demiรกn Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, and Benjamin Rigby.
