This weekend saw the release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and since it’s a movie designed to spin off a whole cinematic universe…it offered up a lot of questions.
Videos by ComicBook.com
Some of them you will know the answer to if you read the comics, some of them are the kind of questions any movie can leave you with, like why somebody made a particualrly bad decision.
But then there’s the other category — where there’s no definitive answer yet, but it’s a lot of fun to speculate about them.
That’s where I come in…!

WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THE DREAM SEQUENCES?
There was a lot to unpack in Batman’s dream sequences.
Were they real? Well, there certainly seems to be some element of reality to them, since he saw The Flash in them and we know that’s really The Flash, since he’s been cast in another movie and all.
He also saw a terrifying world where the landscape was scorched, fire blasted either to or from the sky, and a gargantuan Omega was carved or burned into the ground.
That world, nicknamed the “Knightmare,” appears to be a vision of a potential future where the DC Comics villain Darkseid and his monstrous minions the Parademons have attacked Earth and manipulated or mind-controlled Superman into working with them.
When The Flash shows up to Batman, he tells him that Lois is the key, and Superman says something about “taking her from me,” so many fans have speculated that this dark turn is as a result of losing Lois Lane — possibly to death, as in Kingdom Come and Injustice: Gods Among Us.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE DOWNED KRYPTONIAN SHIP?
It seems ill-advised to have left a potentially operational Kryptonian craft sitting where it fell in the middle of a major city.
The fact that Lex managed to make it even more dangerous than it inherently was by subverting the Kryptonian chain of command and creating Doomsday goes to show that this thing needs to be gone.
But to where? Can anyone even move it, let alone destroy it, if not Superman himself?
COULD KNYAZEV HAVE SURVIVED?
In the comics, Anatoli Knyazev is the KGBeast, a longtime villain who has beef with both Batman and Aquaman.
He’s also appeared on Arrow a number of times.
Here, he’s a contract killer for Luthor…and one who seemingly gets blown up toward the end of the movie.
But did he really?
In the comics, the KGBeast has a missing hand and scarring, and wears a full-body uniform to hide his face. Could we see that version of the character in future films?!
WHAT DOES LEX KNOW?
…And who’s coming?
Throughout the film, it seemed as though Lex Luthor just didn’t like aliens, and/or didn’t like so much power being consolidated with one person who wasn’t him once Superman came on the scene.
That depiction is pretty on-point, not only with many of his comics depictions over the years, but with how Lex’s Supergirl counterpart Maxwell Lord is being played.
But in the end…was he actually trying to kill Superman and/or Batman so that he could prep Earth for an invasion from Apokolips? Because it kind of sounds like it…!
IS SUPERMAN REALLY DEAD?
There are always ways to bring Superman back; hell, he looked pretty dead after being hit with a nuclear bomb, but the sun replenished him.
From inside a casket, though, there are far fewer ways to get the sun.
Also not available to Clark: the Genesis Chamber, which was used to revive and mutate Zod’s body into Doomsday. Since he was buried in Smallville, it would be very hard to smuggle him there, unless Bruce Wayne used his connections…!
All that said, it really looked to me like the dirt on top of the coffin moved.
