Production officially began on Godzilla: Kong of the Monsters, which means we can finally catch a glimpse of some of the carnage the film will have in store for audiences as behind-the-scenes images become public. The photos depict a wake of destruction, but it’s unclear which monster might have caused the catastrophe.
According to an eyewitness account of the set: “…there were a lot of thunderous noises, booms, and monster sounds emitting around the location. With cars turned over, flames roaring, and with debris scattered everywhere. And clearly from the glimpses of the set, it must have been quite the night!”

The upcoming film is the next installment in the Legendary and Warner Bros. “MonsterVerse,” which will see the most iconic behemoths from cinema facing off against one another.
Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla in 2014 helped kick off the shared universe, which also served as a course correction from the 1998 Godzilla, which was received poorly by critics and audiences alike.

The next film in the shared universe was Kong: Skull Island, a slight reinterpretation of the legend of King Kong. That film used a post-credits scene to tease the monsters that the gigantic ape will cross paths with, Godzilla included.
Edwards’ film focused mainly on the human characters, while Kong focused more on the monster mayhem. With director Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat, Krampus) at the helm, the upcoming Godzilla sequel will more than likely fall more in line with Kong‘s tone.
The film’s synopsis is as follows:
“The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”
Godzilla: King of the Monsters will hit theaters March 22, 2019.
Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring), Kyle Chandler (Bloodline), Ken Watanabe (Inception), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), and Aisha Hinds (True Blood) will star in the movie.
Krampus and Trick ‘r Treat filmmaker, Michael Dougherty, will helm Godzilla: King of the Monsters, based on a script he wrote with his Krampus co-writer, Zach Shields.
