Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens in US theaters on September 22nd, and at current estimates it is poised for a $40 – 45 million opening weekend box office, which would put it ahead of the $36.5 million opening weekend for Kingsman: The Secret Service in 2015.

As THR reports, that’s not only a good sign for the Kingsman franchise, but for Hollywood, as well, after the long drag of truly abysmal August at the box office. September is shaping up to be unusually exciting for movie releases this year: in addition to Kingsman, we’ll get the much-anticipated release of Stephen King’s IT, as well as the IMAX theater premiere of Marvel’s Inhumans.
Kingsman: The Secret Service went on to earn over $400 million at the worldwide box office, and with the franchise’s inherit appeal in overseas markets, there’s no doubt that the worldwide box office haul will be pretty good for The Golden Circle, as well. The sequel will also have a chance at a much bigger domestic office, thanks to the relocated setting (America) and a lineup of A-list stars (Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry) playing “The Statesmen,” a US version of The Kingsman.
