Bruce Banner’s Hulk returning in Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens the door for another forgotten Marvel Cinematic Universe character to make his second live-action appearance. The Hulk has been central to the MCU since his debut back in 2008, even though he has only embarked on one solo adventure. His experience as a founding member of the Avengers and as a strong partner to the likes of Thor, She-Hulk, and Shang-Chi has made him one of the most important characters in the franchise, making his return in Brand New Day very exciting.

Mark Ruffalo was announced to be returning in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in August, confirming he’ll join Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Sadie Sink, and more in Destin Daniel Cretton’s next MCU movie. This will mark Ruffalo’s first appearance in the MCU since She-Hulk: Attorney at Law in October 2022, where he helped Jennifer Walters transition into She-Hulk and made an impromptu journey to Sakaar. He didn’t come back from Sakaar alone, so it’s possible that Spider-Man: Brand New Day could also mark the return of Bruce Banner’s son, Skaar.

Wil Deusner (Stargirl, FBI: International) briefly portrayed Skaar in the finale of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Bruce Banner returned from Sakaar with his son to introduce him to his extended family, including Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), but Skaar had no speaking lines and his inclusion in the series was not explained at all. He hasn’t been seen or heard from in the three years since, so it would be great for Skaar to return alongside his father in Spider-Man: Brand New Day to explore his story more and cement him as a real part of the MCU.
After appearing in Marvel Comics’ What If: Planet Hulk event in 2007, Skaar made his official Marvel Comics debut in 2008’s World War Hulk #5. He was born on Sakaar while the Hulk had been exiled there, during which time the Hulk formed a romance with the extraterrestrial Caiera. He was born after his mother’s death thanks to the Old Power, so he grew up with neither of his parents and became a hardened and brutal survivor. This culminated in him traveling to Earth to kill his father during his rampage against the Earth’s heroes, but he was unsuccessful.
It seems Marvel Studios is taking a very different approach to Skaar in the MCU. His appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law spurred theories that an adaptation of World War Hulk would be coming to the MCU, but Skaar doesn’t seem to want to kill his father. It would be surprising if the Hulk doesn’t mention Skaar at all in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and perhaps even more curious if Banner’s son doesn’t make an appearance at all. It would be a shame for Skaar to simply be forgotten by Marvel.
