It’s been over 16 years since a new Friday the 13th movie was made, and though the franchise has been stuck in limbo due to legal issues, the series may finally be moving forward in a big way. This summer brought news that the rights holders for the series have finally reached a point where they’re now fully capable of returning to Camp Crystal Lake and showing off the carnage of Jason Voorhees once again. Now, a well-known creative has confirmed his hat has been thrown in the ring for the franchise, and if it proves to be true, then it would mark an upgrade for the slasher killer.

Adam Scherr, best known to many as by his WWE moniker, Braun Strowman, has revealed in a new interview that he’s in talks to potentially put on the hockey mask and become the next Jason Voorhees. Speaking with Collider, Scherr said: “There may be some talks about it with people that I know and my agency. If we could ever get everybody to get back on the same page and allow the things to work, I might be the next Voorhees.โ If that comes to pass, Strowman would set a Friday the 13th record and push the killer to new heights, literally.
Braun Strowman as Jason Voorhees Could Upgrade the Killer, Literally

Though Jason Voorhees has long been known as a hulking menace, a slasher killer that towers over his victims, in truth, the killer isn’t really that tall in most of the films. Actor and stuntman Kane Hodder, who played Jason in four feature films in the series, stands just 6’2″ while the late Richard Brooker, who played Jason in Friday the 13th Part III, clocked in at 6’3″. The two most recent big screen Jason Voorhees stars, Ken Kirzinger in Freddy vs Jason and Derek Mears in Friday the 13th (2009), both measured 6’5″. Should Scherr’s tease prove to be true and does put on the iconic hockey mask, he would officially become the tallest actor to ever play Jason Voorhees, standing 6’8″.
Scherr teasing that he’s in talks to potentially play Voorhees on the big screen marks the only real news heard about the Friday the 13th franchise since this summer. Though a short vignette was released this summer, the promise of new movies being developed for the series was also confirmed. That said, no updates have come up in the time since then, not even a tease of filmmakers that might be attached or what direction the series might be headed. With that in mind, even if Scherr’s tease does pan out, it’s unclear when a new Friday the 13th movie might even actually get off the ground.
What We Know About New Friday the 13th Movies

Details on a new Friday the 13th are largely scant, but one thing that is absolutely confirmed is the look for Jason Voorhees himself. As part of their big announcement this summer, Friday the 13th LLC and Horror, Inc. revealed the “new look” for Jason Voorhees that will be the standard heading forward. For horror fans, this fresh design comes by way of a major figure in the genre, none other than Greg Nicotero.
Nicotero previously confirmed to ComicBook that the new design for Jason had one edict from the powers that be: Jason isn’t going to be a rotten, undead killer anymore. As a result, the team decided on a version that harkened back to Friday the 13th Part III, the introduction of the hockey mask to the series. That said, there’s still the potential for plans to change in a major way when a feature film does finally get off the ground, but one thing is for sure: Jason’s hockey mask will be present.
So even though we know almost nothing about the new Friday the 13th movie, we do know that if Adam Scherr/Braun Strowman picks up the machete, this is the look he’s going to be rocking when he slashes those camp counselors to pieces.
