Power Ranking All 6 Original Movie X-Men Against the MCU’s Sentry (Could Any Beat Him?)

Dozens of mutants made their cinematic debut in the X-Men live-action franchise, which consists of 14 films, beginning with the cult classic movie X-Men (2000). As the franchise expanded, so did the X-Men team, which boasted several combinations throughout. However, the primary team introduced in X-Men — Storm, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Rogue, Professor X, and, of course, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine — were among the most popular (and powerful) mutant lineups.

Though the famous crew of mutants proved powerful enough to handle all the villainous and governmental threats thrown at them in the X-Men franchise, it’s fair to wonder how they would hold up against the big bads of the MCU. Specifically, it’s fun to imagine if they could contain the mighty Sentry, who wreaked havoc in Thunderbolts*. Here’s how each original X-Men would manage against Sentry.

6) Wolverine

If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. This would be the story of a potential standoff between Wolverine and Sentry, as Wolverine would have to regenerate repeatedly to even cause Sentry to break a sweat. Wolverine’s razor-sharp claws and ferocious nature aren’t nearly enough to kill Sentry, but, on the flip side, Sentry can’t really kill Wolverine, either. Still, even if afforded 100 attempts, the likelihood of Wolverine defeating Sentry is slim to none.

5) Cyclops

Now we are entering the portion of the list that has virtually no shot at defeating Sentry. Despite being an Alpha-level mutant and leader of the X-Men, Cyclops and his concussive Optic Blasts would hardly injure Sentry, who has endured much more dangerous bouts. Cyclops would be a handful for most villains, but against Sentry, he simply doesn’t have enough in his arsenal to prevail.

4) Storm

Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm, can manipulate the weather at will. With a sheer thought, Storm can summon massive tidal waves, generate F5 tornadoes, strike opponents with blasts of lightning and has even created blizzards cold enough to freeze lava in the comics. Furthermore, as a manipulator of wind and oxygen, Storm has proved capable of sucking the air out of a person’s lungs. Despite not boasting brute strength like Sentry, Storm would likely be able to give him a run for his money.

3) Jean Grey

Like her mentor Professor X, Jean Grey is an extremely powerful telepath. Many, including Emma Frost and Charles Xavier, consider her perhaps the most powerful in the Marvel universe. In a potential showdown against Sentry, Jean Grey would likely fry his brain before he could land a hit. Plus, just as the Sentry can elevate his power with The Void, Jean Grey could summon the Phoenix Force (if need be) to help defeat the powerful tyrant.

2) Professor X

While Professor X is no match for Sentry physically, he holds an immense mental advantage over the powerful anti-hero. One of the most powerful telepaths in comics, Professor X can stop/freeze people (and mutants) on a massive scale, alter memories and minds, and change people’s personalities.

In a battle against Sentry, Professor X could essentially mind control Sentry to turn on himself. Or, he could drive Sentry too insane to focus on fighting, just as he did by scarring Magneto with painful childhood memories. Obviously, if it comes down to bare-knuckle brawling, Professor X won’t last a second. But I like his chances in telepathic warfare.

1) Rogue

Due to her ability to absorb (and later mimic) the powers and abilities of those she makes contact with, Rogue would likely be able to give Sentry a run for his money in combat. As the old saying goes, she would essentially be fighting fire with fire by throwing Sentry’s immense power back at him.

In the comics, Rogue has absorbed the strength, lightning ability and durability from Thor, speed, flight and strength from Miss Marvel and bone claws and regeneration from Wolverine, among others. Given that she has canonically stolen power from a god (Thor) and an alien lifeform (Silver Surfer), it fair to suggest that she could absorb and replicate Sentry’s powers, too.

And, should she succeed, she’d have a wealth of power at her disposal, as Sentry has often been compared to Superman in terms of power. Like the Kryptonian hero, Sentry boasts superspeed, flight, superhuman strength, and nigh invulnerability. In the comics, he’s bested Thor and World War Hulk(!) in combat and Reed Richards noted that his power is near limitless. Oh, and did I mention he’s also a shape-shifting telepath?

Needless to say, if Rogue can get her hands on him, she would acquire a bevy of power. Perhaps enough power to defeat Sentry herself.
