Cosplay: the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime.
This weekend in San Diego, thousands of con goers followed that definition as they walked the convention center dressed as some of their favorite pop culture icons. People from around the world flock to world's largest pop culture gathering, some working for months in advance to have a chance to impersonate their favorite super hero among fans like themselves.
This year's cosplay saw some true dedication and surprises. One attendee was already sporting Ben Affleck's Batsuit. Other highlights included characters from the new Mad Max, Joy, Sadness, and Disgust from Inside Out, Iron Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and a truly amazing Groot cosplay.
