The LEGO Movie came as a sort of surprise hit when it premiered in 2014. And while the film’s universe has expanded in the years since – thanks to February’s The LEGO Batman Movie and this fall’s The LEGO Ninjago Movie – some have been wondering what will happen in the original film’s sequel.

Although The LEGO Movie Sequel isn’t set to premiere until February 8th, 2019, one of its stars has hinted at what territory will be covered in the film.
While on the press tour for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Chris Pratt was asked to give an update on the highly-anticipated LEGO sequel. According to the actor, the film might address the biggest twist of its predecessor – with interesting results.
If it’s been a while since you’ve seen the first LEGO movie, here’s a refresher: the third act revealed that the world of the film was actually a large diorama constructed by a man in the ‘real world’ (Will Ferrell), and the narrative of the film was being constructed by his son.
While this twist added a touching aspect to the high-energy hit film, it created an increasingly-complicated set up for a sequel, according to Pratt.
“The first movie is a very difficult movie to create a sequel to,” Pratt explained to io9. “Because, as all the best movies do, it paints itself into a corner. Especially by tearing down the fourth wall in the final act. That’s a major jump, so they’ve got some really awesome ideas on how to deal with that and I can’t wait for people to see it.”
Although it will take a little less than two years for fans to actually see The LEGO Movie Sequel, Pratt reassured that he will be doing much of his voice work on the film very soon.
“I’ve done some work on it but we really haven’t done the bulk of the work yet.” Pratt revealed. “I’m about to get the newest draft of the script and really dive into it in about two weeks. I’ve got my major record in about two weeks.”
