Exclusive: First-Look At ’The Mummy’ Motion Comic Detailing Ahmanet’s Origins

If you’re wanting to learn more about The Mummy‘s undead vixen, then you have come to the right place. ComicBook has gotten an exclusive first-look at a new motion comic based on Princess Ahmanet, and it details the girl’s descent into the underworld.

As you can see above, the brooding clip features a montage of scenes from Ahmanet’s youth. The clip begins with a scene showing the girl’s father holding his new son after Menehptre’s second wife gives birth. Ahmanet is shown off to the side looking unaffected by the birth, but the image changes to show a body at her feat.

Fans will know the body is that of Ahmanet’s father. The Mummy detailed how the villainess killed her entire family to secure her lineage to the throne. The girl made a deal with the demon Set to grant her wish, but Menehptre’s priests captured her and mummified her alive.

As the reel moves forward, fans are shown a landscape of ancient Egypt before it fades to a new sketch of Ahmanet. The drawing shows the princess in white-blue tones as she stares straight ahead. The vixen has a clear evil bent to her, giving fans their first look at Ahmanet’s new place as the Goddess of Chaos and Wrath.

The comic acts as a prelude to the destruction Ahmanet wreaks in The Mummy itself. The villain, who is played by Sophia Boutella, has opened up about the character’s backstory before and how important Ahmanet’s psychology is.

“Having nothing to lose, she summons the wrong god, in order to get what she wanted, that power that will give her what she was promised,” the actress told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s put aside for a very long time because she became dangerous. In modern times, she comes back, to go after what she was promised to receive, to begin with.”

Continuing, Boutella nodded to her character’s internal musings. “It was important to me that this character had a backstory, you know? It’s the first time that you see a female Mummy. She can’t be just a monster walking around scaring people. There needs to be something significant her shining through. To explore that psychology in her, what happened to her as a woman: Being deceived, because there’s a boy who comes into the picture all of a sudden.”

The Mummy will hit Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD on September 12.
