While the Transformers are more synonymous with vehicles, the Autobots and Decepticons did fight in the form of animals during the popular Beast Wars animated series.

With the Transformers dipping into the realm of Arthurian legend, it stands to reason that other eras could be in the cards for future movies. Meredith Placko sat down with Transformers: The Last Knight producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura on behalf of ComicBook.com to talk about the possibility of seeing the fan favorite hit the big screen.
“I’m probably not the one to be asking that question to,” said di Bonaventura, “because I don’t get Beast Wars, but you know, thankfully I’m not the only vote on it. I’ve never quite understood, they kind of feel like incompatible to me, you have animals, robots, we’re used to cars.”
At that point, Placko brought up the Dinobots, who have always been a fan favorite and are clearly not cars.
“Ah well, there you go. That works great too doesn’t it” said di Bonaventura.
The original Beast Wars series ran for three seasons from 1996 to 1999 and featured the popular characters in new factions called Maximals and Predacons. While The Last Knight shows that the studio is willing to introduce new elements, it will probably be an uphill battle for Beast Wars to ever hit the screen.
Transformers: The Last Knight currently holds a 3.91 out of 5 on ComicBook.com’s anticipation rankings.
Transformers: The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).
There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.
Mark Wahlberg and Stanley Tucci will reprise their roles from Transformers: Age of Extinction. Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro reprise their roles for the first three Transformers movies. The film also stars Isabela Moner, Laura Haddock, Anthony Hopkins, Santiago Cabrera, Liam Garrigan, Jerrod Carmichael, and Mitch Pileggi.
Transformers: The Last Knight’s voice cast includes Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, John Goodman as Hound, and John DiMaggio as Crosshairs. Other transformers appearing the film include Bumblebee, Drift, Hot Rod, Cogman, Canopy, Sqweeks, Grimlock, Megatron, Barricade, Onslaught, Hooligan, and Mohawk.
Transformers: The Last Knight opens in movie theaters on June 21, 2017.
