While Sony has already mentioned the idea of Amazing Spider-Man sequels and spinoffs, director Marc Webb told E! Online that he isn't sure he's the guy to take on future Spidey flicks. "I don't know," he said. "I've said this before, but it's like asking a woman who's just given birth if she wants to get pregnant again. You know, I need to nurse the baby for a little while." It's especially fresh for him becuase, according to that interview, he only finished post-production and got the film completely ready for the multiplexes six weeks ago. That's a pretty remarkable turnaround, but more common nowadays, since the increasing popularity of all-digital filmmaking means there's much less of a delay in making prints for the theaters. "It's a bittersweet moment because I've become so close to so many people on the shoot," he said of sending the Amazing cast and crew home for the final time. "It's sort of surreal that it's coming to a close." He added that he needs a break before he can really think about a sequel, even as the movie is starting to open huge around the world. After a long shoot, preceded by pressure to live up to the popular Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy and dozens of media reports of "too soon to reboot," it's not surprising he feels he needs a break, but he's got a plan in place already that sounds pretty promising to us. Said the director, "I think I'm going to go to a beach somewhere, have a glass of whiskey and watch the sun stroll across the sky."
