The Simpsons official Twitter account tweeted an image that they hope will "stop the rumors" associated with Marge and Homer's marriage. It features their son Bart writing on the school's chalkboard: "HOMER AND MARGE ARE NOT BREAKING UP."

Yesterday, The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean told Variety that in the upcoming season premiere "Homer and Marge legally separate."

Of course, people overreacted to this. Some worried that Marge and Homer's marriage would on the rocks for most of the upcoming season. That doesn't really make all that much sense since the show isn't known to have much continuity. What happens in one episode doesn't necessarily have repercussions in the next.

Also, this wasn't the first time Al Jean mentioned Marge and Homer "legally separating." Nobody made a fuss when he made the same comments to Entertainment Weekly back on April 15th. Why the fuss now?

The Simpsons Season 27 is about to begin production.
