At least part of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is reportedly being shot in IMAX, according to locals viewing outdoor filming in Chicago.
The movie, which will bridge the gap between Man of Steel and Justice League Part One, will introduce Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Aquaman into Warner Bros.' DC Cinematic Universe.
The rumors started with the following tweet, which has been picked up by numerous entertainment news sites, apparently starting with Batman-News.
I can confirm with my own eyes that Batman vs Superman is filming at least the Wayne murder scene with full IMAX film cameras.— Mike Eisenberg (@Eisentower30) November 13, 2014
Slashfilm indicates that not all of the cameras in use on the set have been IMAX, noting that photos of non-IMAX cameras used for the production have been released online.
Many films are remastered in IMAX, and many more -- including Avengers: Age of Ultron and Fast & Furious 7 -- will be in the next couple of years. Shooting in IMAX is much rarer, in part because of a limited number of available cameras. Shooting a portion of the film in IMAX and the rest traditionally is not unheard-of, and was done during the Dark Knight Trilogy.
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is being filmed in IMAX.
