Lucy Griffiths, who appears in the pilot episode of Constantine as Liv, will depart the series as the writing staff has chosen to "go another way," according to ScreenCrush.

Griffiths joined the cast in May, at the same time as Harold Perrineau, both coming from popular genre shows (Griffiths from True Blood and Perrineau from Lost).

Griffiths' character will apparently either be written out of the show or simply not recur beyond the pilot, and will be replaced in-story by Zed, one of Constantine's recurring characters from the Hellblazer comics on which the series is based.

According to the report, "Zed apparently marks only the first of multiple 'Hellblazer' and DC comic characters on the docket for introduction."

Ironically, it's Liv whose father -- a deceased friend of Constantine's -- had a collection of supernatural trinkets that included the helmet of Fate, the Ibistick and other identifiable DC Comics items, so while she didn't appear in the original comics, it seemed that Liv might be Constantine's connection to that world.

The Constantine pilot, which revolves heavily around Liv, will screen at Comic Con International: San Diego later this month. While hardly a guarantee, it seems like a logical conclusion that some additional casting might be announced then.
