During New York Comic Con, ComicBook.com reported on the new trailer revealing Disney infinity 3.0 Edition: Marvel Battlegrounds, a new arcade style, Marvel-themed addition to the popular toys-to-life franchise.

The trailer also came with the reveal of a new Captain America figure for the game, called Captain America – The First Avenger, and modelled after Cap’s Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance, as portrayed by Chris Evans.

The sculpt shows Cap holding his iconic shield at his feet, as if it were the cornerstone of his character.

It’s a definitive display, and one that we’ve seen before. The First Avenger is an appropriate title for the figure. Even though he’s wearing his Avengers: Age of Ultron costume, Cap’s pose was taken from the first Captain America: The First Avenger movie poster, featuring Chris Evans.

Cap’s head is tilted upwards from the poster, since nobody wants this kids’ toy to look quite so dour, but it’s a pretty spot on recreation otherwise.

The pose was used even earlier than that, by Steve Epting in his cover to 2005’s Captain America #4.

Here, Cap is seen standing over a grave, implied to be Jack Munroe’s, a.k.a. Nomad, who had been murdered in the previous issue. Leaving the cover non-specific makes the image that much more iconic, since it can be taken to represent Cap mourning his fellow soldiers, and emphasizes the sadness that comes with being a man out of time. Marvel Studios removed the setting and the mask from their poster – showing off their leading man – but kept the pose.

Marvel Battlegrounds will release for Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition in 2016.
