The image, posted on instagram and shared virally as a “possible image” of the actor on the set is 100%, definitely fake. In fact, doing a tiny bit of research shows where the picture, a photoshop fabrication, has its origins.

Yes, that’s the actual picture, from the set of the live-action Assassin’s Creed: Lineage. You can clearly see that the photo, from the 2009 live-action short film, has simply been swapped horizontally, with a fake image of Spidey placed over the assassin.

Quick and easy way to tell for the future (or make better Photoshop fakes): Spidey’s shadow, going dark and deep back behind him onto the green screen. In the real picture, you can see there’s only the lightest of shadows, and it’s in front of the actor – they try to minimize shadows with 360 degrees of even lighting when doing green screen filming, so it’s one less thing they have to worry about when adding the CGI backgrounds, where they also add the light source.

We have also confirmed with our sources that the suit is not even right on this “Spider-Man.” So this is not what Tom Holland will look like in costume – the photoshopper didn’t have access to the real deal costume, as described here.

Spider-Man, now shared by Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, will debut in Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016. Tom Holland’s first solo pic as the web-slinger will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
