HBO has released online a special feature from the Game of Thrones Season 4 Blu-ray set, released on Tuesday. The feature delves into the history of the Kingdom of Dorne, home of House Martell.
The video is narrated by “The Red Viper of Dorne,” Prince Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal), and a recount a history that is pretty unique among Westeros' Seven Kingdoms. Dorne is the only kingdom to be ruled by both males and females, and is also the only kingdom that did not fall to the Targaryens in war, but by marriage instead, they were brought into the kingdoms through marriage. That alliance would end poorly for House Martell, when Robert's Rebellion broke out.

So far, fans have only met Oberyn, but Dorne and House Martell are set to play a much larger role in Season 5 of Game of Thrones. Several other members of House Martell, including Oberyn's brother, prince Doran, and his bastard daughters, the Sand Snakes, will make their debut, and the series began production in Spain for the first time to shoot scenes set in Dorne.
Game of Thrones Season 5 premieres on HBO on April 12.
