Producer Damon Lindelof has been promising LOST fans for months that the cult favorite would return for the show's 6th and final season. So, it seemed inevitable that ABC would give the hit show the green light for the upcoming 2009-2010 season.

On Thursday, ABC made the final season of LOST official, when it issued a press release stating that LOST and an additional 11 shows had been approved for next season's programming schedule.

Along with LOST, ABC renewed Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Dancing With The Stars, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Wife Swap, America's Funniest Home Videos, The Bachelor, Brothers & Sisters, Ugly Betty, and Supernanny. Fans of such shows as The Unusuals and Scrubs shouldn't fret just yet because ABC hasn't renewed their favorite series. The broadcasting company has until it's annual meeting with advertisers on May 19th to place additional programs on next year's programming schedule.

Though LOST has been renewed for the 2009-2010 season, the last season will not begin until the beginning of next year, likely in January, as season 5 did this year. Until then, LOST producers have additional time and an approved budget to begin writing scripts and hiring new cast members.
