For most Cloverfield fans, since the words "It's still alive!" were uttered after the credits rolled, any news of a sequel couldn't come soon enough. In that time, other monster films, namely Godzilla, have come through theatres around the world. Thing is, nothing has quite filled the void that the monster from Cloverfield left, and if J.J. Abrams has his way, he's going to do something about that.

Well, maybe.

With the J.J. described "blood relative" 10 Cloverfield Lane hitting theatres soon, Entertainment Weekly caught up with him and asked him about what the films have in common, and even if they are in the same universe, he had this to say.

"I think that would be presumptuous, because we're talking about this movie and comparing it to Cloverfield, but I would be lying if I didn't say there was something else that, if we're lucky enough to do it, could be really cool that connects some stories."

Basically, it sounds like they are not related, at least at this point. If he were to get to do this unnamed future project, that might change.

"This is just this movie, and it's only two films that we're talking about right now," Abrams said. "There is something else that we'd like to do, and hopefully we'll get a shot."

Either way, I'm glad to see the Cloverfield brand live on, and hopefully, that unannounced future project will come to fruition.
