Roman Dirge, creator of the fan-favorite creator-owned series Lenore, is in the hospital following a hit-and-run accident, the writer/artist reports via Facebook. "So... Drunk driver in SUV hit me full force while crossing street and sent me flying," wrote Dirge. "Leg is broken in half and I'm all around jacked. They took off took. Waiting for surgery. Morphine is only reason I can type this...." He hasn't offered an update since, and it's unclear whether the driver has been apprehended yet. Dirge, along with Johnny the Homicidal Maniac creator Jhonen Vasquez, were two of the most successful comic book creators in the bookstore market during the superhero bust of the late '90s and early 2000s, thanks in no small part to mainstream retailers like Borders and Hot Topic carrying their work regularly.
