OK, so that headline was a cheap shot, but this character just begs for a childish joke whenever he resurfaces.
In this case, though, the title is about the only laughing matter; famed artist Kevin Nowlan is taking on the project, which is based on a script from the late Steve Gerber.
Gerber's work on offbeat projects like Howard the Duck and Doctor Fate makes him a perfect candidate to do a book with Nowlan, whose character work is distinctively and wonderfully odd. The pair come together through the magic of an unproduced script that Gerber created before he died.
Originally announced to be released as a graphic novel titled Man Thing: Screenplay of the Living Dead Man in October 2012, it appears as though Marvel has had a change of heart and will either release it as a miniseries or at least has retitled the one-shot to something easier to remember. The solicitation text doesn't make it clear, but it does provide readers with their first look at the book they describe as being "decades in the making."
And in case having a book written by a dead, legendary comics creator wasn't enough for you, try this on for size: a variant cover for the story will be provided with Gil Kane, co-creator of the Silver Age Green Lantern, who passed away in 2000. That image wasn't made available in Marvel's press release, but it's posted to their website and so has been downloaded and included here.
