When Michael Chiklis steps into a set, people take notice. The actor has commanded casts before, be it on The Shield, The Commish, or even shows where he wasn't a cop!

"If I were to preclude law enforcement oriented scripts, there'd be pretty much nothing left. I think 85% of things are in police and law enforcement," Chiklis half-joked to ComicBook.com in an interview at NYCC. "I've done a lot of law enforcement stuff, but this is an entirely different cop," he said of his new role as the police Captain Barnes on Gotham. He recognizes that it's not his first rodeo in comic book roles, either, but sees major differences between them.

"In the comic book scene, I've been in the Marvel Universe before, but that's incredibly different from DC," Chiklis explained, "which is more 'Heart of Darkness' noir, brooding kind of a feel to it. It's very cool!"

His role on the show will be as a new "mentor or father figure" to Jim Gordon who's "going down into the darkness."

As for what's to come, "Episode 9 really reveals why he is the way he is, and gets into the darkness of this character. There's an epic battle with this group of villains, and there's bombs going off, and shots fired, and knives being wielded, and it's violent and intense," Chiklis teased.
