Nightwing has been officially confirmed as a member of TNT's upcoming Titans series.

While many assumed that the former Robin would be a part of the televised Titans, DC Entertainment's Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns confirmed it on Twitter, writing "Long time coming to get Nightwing to live action…!"

The news came quickly after the announcement that Titans would begin filming sometime next year, which also came by way of Johns' Twitter account.

Nightwing, a.k.a. Dick Grayson, is the former protege of Batman and Bruce Wayne. As the first character to carry the mantle of Robin, Grayson is one of DC Comics' oldest characters. Grayson quit as Batman's partner during the 1980s however, and adopted the Nightwing persona during Marv Wolfman and George Perez's esteemed run on "New Teen Titans."

Despite his storied history with DC Comics, Nightwing has never been included into any official live-action adaptations. Dick Grayson's live-action appearances on the screen, big and small, have only been as Robin.  However, Nightwing has appeared in several DC animated series, including Young Justice, The New Adventures of Batman, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Titans, which will bring DC Comics' "Teen Titans" franchise to live-action, is set to begin filming next year for TNT.
