In a superheroic move, Supergirl had the best debut in key demographic of any premiere this season. With a 3.2 overnight rating and 12.9 million viewers, it beat out Blindspot for the title of best premiere in Fall 2015.

The show retained over 75% of the demographic from its special lead-in The Big Bang Theory, starting up in the half-hour mark. Next week it will go into the regular 8pm timeslot, directly competing with fellow DC Entertainment and WBTV show, Gotham for the full hour.

The Nielsen ratings show that the demo audience was almost a perfect split, with 48% of viewers female and 52% male, a much more balanced result than most action shows.

In this week's Comic Book TV Power Rankings, we saw that Gotham had the second-highest comic book TV show ratings, but with a 2.43 in Live+3, Supergirl's debut far outstretched what Gotham has been up to. And don't worry about The Walking Dead's crown - they had a 6.8 rating this week. Keep punching, Supergirl.
