Weta Workshop and Wired have released videos detailing the behind-the-scenes work that went into Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Wired’s video showcases the digital effects Weta’s team of artists created for the “impressive, large-scale battle sequences” during the battle for the Lonely Mountain. It even shows the intricate work that went into Smaug’s attack upon Laketown. The video Weta Workshop released contains concept art, which you can view below, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the design of the various costumes.

After you watch both videos I think many of you will agree with Mike Seymour from Wired, who seemed genuinely puzzled that The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies did not receive an Oscar nomination in the visual effects category. They were snubbed!
