This morning, Michael Bay has released the first thirty seconds of a 55-second spot which will air during the Super Bowl on Sunday.
The ad was released in conjunction with a new synopsis, some new key art (seen below), and a statement from Bay on the creative process behind the film, which suggested once again that this could (really this time) be his final Transformers movie as a director.
The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).
There comes a moment in everyone's life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.
In a recent on-set interview, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura explained what Transformers: The Last Knight hopes to do:
"And this movie, the two lines of mythology give you freedom to go a lot of different places later on that may or may not directly relate to another movie, but it's opening up the universe in a way that's probably the most provocative, in terms of the movie. It's opening a really large universe of what Transformers is, and where they've come from, and how we relate to them, and how they relate to themselves."
