You know what I’m talking about. After a long hard day, you come home with every intention of having a relaxing evening with your couch, your snacks, and your Netflix account…only to waste 3 hours adding random crap to your queue until it’s bedtime.
Well, we’re here to break it down for you and hopefully save you some time with the best stuff to watch…
The Entire Jaws Collection
ย
On September 1st, every single film in Stephen Speilberg’sย Jaws franchise is hitting the Netflixย waters. Yes, even Jaws 3 (when the titular Great White shark gets stuck in tubes under Sea World) will be available, giving us a quite a binge-worthy line-up. Often referredย to as “the best movie ever,”ย Spielberg takes us on a non-stop thrill ride that feels a little bit too realistic. You may never step foot in the ocean again, but that’s all part ofย Speilberg’sย iconic movie-making magic. If you haven’t yet indulged yourself in one of the best horror/thriller anthologies of all time, it might be time to get your pretty little feet wet.ย
Jaws (1975) is actually based on a novel which is based on the true story of the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916, as you may have seen on a Shark Week special. While Mayor Vaughn tries to cover up deadly shark attacks in the resort town of Amity so it won’t hurt summer tourism, Police Chief Michael Brody is tasked with finding and killing the finned repeat offender.
The ultimate success of the first movie spawned three more sequels:
- Jaws 2 (1978)
- Jaws 3 (1983)
- Jaws: The Revenge (1987)
After a mostly disappointingย summer of box-office flops, Netlfix is making up for it by bringing us the Grandaddy of all summer blockbusters. So put your swimsuits on, hop in that sailboat with the lovely Brody family in the resort town of Amity, and try not to get eaten alive by the world’s most dangerous predator. You know that Great White’s have multiple rows of razor-sharp teeth, right?
Oh, and that marine biologist (played by Richard Dreyfus) with his “anti-shark cage” is just so dreamy…

Comic Book TV Catch-Up
Supergirlย Season 1
If you’re like me, you may not have watched Season 1 of Supergirl when it first aired on CBS last Fall. But if you managed to catch even one episode, you quickly realized how “adorkable” Melissa Benoistย is as Kara Danvers.
Now that the series has found it’s true home at The CW with the rest of the Berlantiverse, it’s time you catch up with Kara before the ultimate crossovers begin and Superman finally appears. I got through the whole season in just two days, mostly because I was waiting for Kara and Jimmy Olsen to kiss. Supergirlย season 2 premieres Monday, October 10th on The CW.
Gothamย Season 2
Season 2 of Gothamย continued it’s villain-centric storyline, while introducing quite a few new prototypes otherwise known as Batman Rogues before they realized they were Rogues. The finale ended with quite a few teases thanks to Hugo Strange’sย mad scientist experiments.
Season 3 of Gothamย will begin with Mad Hatter as the main big bad, but before it starts make sure you catch up with Jim Gordon and the seedy underbelly of pre-Batman Gothamย with season 2. Season 3 of Gothamย premiers on September 19th on Fox. So, maybe start with this one first.
The Walking Dead Season 6
All six seasons of AMC’sย The Walking Dead are now streaming on Netflix. Since the season ended we’ve practically been bombarded with details and rumors for the upcoming season If you want to go back and re-watchย that gut-wrenching season finale courtesy of Neegan and Lucille, be our guest!
Also, if you missed the entire season for some reason (like you really can’t stand CORAL) you have plenty of time to catch up with what’s left of the survivors before season 7 begins. And if you happen to spot some clues as to who Neeganย may have brutally murdered, please let me know, as I’m dying to figure it out myself. Season 7 of The Walking Dead premieres on October 23rd on AMC.
Or you could just read a billion show recaps instead…

Narcos: Season 2
Get ready to pull an all-nighter on Friday, September 2nd with the release of season 2 of Narcos, a Netflixย Original series based on the life and times of big-time coke (not the soda) boss Pablo Escobarย (played by Wagner Moura). There is something about true crime and the international drug trade that is just so fascinating, especially when it includes thrilling action, bloody violence, historical accuracy, and a stellar cast.
The first season spanned over two decades of the infamousย Escobar story detailing his rise and reign of theย Medellinย cartel and ended with his daring escape from prison. Season two will focus on the year and a half manhunt for Escobarย which will eventually lead to his demise. Either way, we’re in for fairly deadly follow-up to the critically acclaimed freshman season.ย
Netflixย recently released a full 11-minute teaser via the Narcosย Facebookย page that you can watch below:
ย
Narcos chronicles the gripping real-life stories of the drug kingpins of the late 1980s and the corroborative efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. It details the conflicting forces – legal, political, police, military and civilian – that clash in an effort to control the world’s most powerful commodity: cocaine.
Zootopia
There is no doubt that Disney killed it at the box office this summer, especially with the original animated adventure Zootopiaย starring the unlikely duo ofย Officer Judy Hoppsย (don’t call her cute) and sly con-artistย Nick Wilde (a red fox) Usually foxes eat bunnies, but in this case they become an unstoppable team of mystery-solving detectives.
Anyway, Zootopiaย is definitelyย not just a kids movie. It’s more of a social commentary based on real-world issues with an underlying message about the dangers of prejudice told through a smart, funny, and rather thought-provoking story. All with four-legged animals, perfectly-timed jokes, and a lot of heart to keep the kiddos entertained.

Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made
If you happen to be a fan of just about anything, this is the film for you. Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever made is a true testament to friendship, fan culture, and movie magic. The documentary follows three 11-year old friends who set out to re-shoot Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark with a faithful, shot-for-shot adaptation of the popular action adventure film. They finished every scene except for one.
Over 20 years later, the gang got back together to finish their own personal masterpiece; a love letter to a modern piece of American cinema. This is their inspiring story! Check out the trailer below:
Luke Cage
Luke Cage, the next entry in the Netflix/Marvel partnership finally debuts on September 30th. The man with unbreakable skin will be taking down criminals in Harlem and no bullet can stop him.ย
The street-level superhero series isย already being compared to the likes ofย The Wireย as a gritty crime drama. After volunteering for a medical experiment in prison, Luke finds himself with enhanced strength and bulletproof skin and eventually uses his new superpowers for good.
Cheoย Hodariย Coker, legendary hip hop culture journalist and Luke Cageย showrunner, is clearly going for heavy drama with even heavier action, featuring a soundtrack that pays homage to lyricists of the ’90s. Cokerย described the show as being “a powerful fusion of dark drama, hip-hop, and classic superhero action.“
Luke Cage also starsย Mahershala Ali as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Simone Missickย as Misty Knight, Theo Rossi as Shades, Rosario Dawson reprising herย Daredevilย andย Jessica Jonesย role as Claire Temple.
Sounds like another bingefest…
