When Alcon Entertainment officially announced that a Blade Runner sequel was in the works, fans of the original 1982 film (directed by Ridley Scott) were extremely excited that Harrison Ford (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) was returning and reprising his role as ex-police officer/Replicant hunter Rick Deckard.
The hope was that Ford would have a substantial role, but while promoting La La Land, Ryan Gosling revealed that Ford didn’t spend a lot of time on the Blade Runner 2049 set.

“I can say that we shot for many months before Harrison [Ford] arrived, and obviously there was a lot of anticipation as to when he would show up and how that would be, and it was just a relief,” Gosling told Fandango. “The second he got to set, he just rolled up his sleeves and we all just got to work. It was a real great pleasure to get to work with him.”
The sequel is set several decades after the 1982 original, with Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role as Rick Deckard. The film is written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, and succeeds the initial story by Fancher and David Peoples based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
The cast features Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright, Lennie James, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, Mackenzie Davis, Barkhad Abdi, David Dastmalchian, and Jared Leto.
The film is being directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicarrio, Prisoners) and will be released by Warner Bros. in North America and Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute in all media for all overseas territories. Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will produce along with Johnson and Kosove.

Blade Runner 2049 is to be released on October 6, 2017.
