Before The Purge, before You’re Next, the go-to pinnacle of home invasion horror movies featuring masked killers was 2008’s The Strangers. The film didn’t make a big impact at the box office, as it’s hard to market a film where residents of a house are killed for absolutely no reason, but it’s easily one of the most effective slashers of the last ten years whose impact has been felt throughout multiple movies.

Horror fans have been dying to hear any updates on whether a not a sequel would ever happen, and Bloody Disgusting reports that filming for the highly-anticipated follow-up will begin this summer.

Reportedly, the sequel will “follows a family whose road trip takes a turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park and after the power goes out they decide to hunker down for the night in a borrowed trailer. Under the cover of darkness three familiar masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test their every limit.”

The sequel will be written by the original film’s director, Bryan Bertino, and will be directed by Johannes Roberts. There’s no cast announced as of yet, but that news will probably start to be released as the film gets closer to starting production.

If you haven’t seen The Strangers yet, do yourself a favor and check it out. The look of the murderers, the reasoning behind the attacks, and the ambiguous ending all make it an unsettling watch. The film is claimed to be based on “true events,” and although they really aren’t, the film makes you think it could really happen.
