She will appear in the Matt Damon-starring The Great Wall, making her English-language acting debut, before heading over to Pacific Rim 2. Legendary will also use Jing in Kong: Skull Island. She’s likely not entirely familiar to American audiences who enjoy Chinese cinema, having appeared in New Police Story with internatioanl ation superstar Jackie Chan.
The first film made Japanese star Rinko Kikuchi a household name in the U.S.
Pacific Rim 2 also stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaeny. The film will be directed by Marvel’s Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight in his feature film debut, and set in the same world as the first film but not, as far as anybody can tell, actually written or plotted by Travis Beacham and Guillermo del Toro, who wrote Pacific Rim, which del Toro directed.
Not much information has yet been released about the screenplay, which is being written by Emily Carmichael and Kira Snyder.
The Pacific Rim follow-up is set to be released on February 23, 2018, by Universal, except in China, where Legendary will distribute with its parent company Wanda.
