After Amy Jo Johnson‘s recent revelation, you’ll never watch a particular episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the same again.

Johnson is busy promoting her directorial debut The Space Between, but did manage to fit in some time to talk Power Rangers with CBC Radio and q host Tom Power. During the show, Johnson told a story about her and co-star David Yost (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger) during their time on Mighty Morphin that unfortunately involved some fire.
“Me and David Yost almost caught on fire one time when we were switching places (laughs). It was like this machine and all of the sudden it started smoking” said Johnson. “I could see smoke out of the corner of my eyes, I was like “what is happening”, and then we realized that the machine was on fire. Just silly things like that, that on a union set would never happen.”
Johnson, of course, played Kimberly Hart (the Pink Ranger) on the show, and the episode in question is actually called ‘Switching Places’. In the episode, Billy is still working the kinks out of his new machine, but Kimberly volunteers to test it out anyway. The machine is supposed to allow the two people to read other’s minds, but instead, the two end up switching minds completely and spend the episode trapped in the other’s body.
Luckily for everyone neither the mind swapping or the fire turned out to be injury causing, so that’s a positive. Things were very different back then, and as Johnson points out, on a Union set that would never have occurred.
Next time you watch that episode though, you’re probably going to try and spot it. Don’t worry, no one will blame you.
As for Johnson, she is excited for audiences to see her new film, which she appears in and also directs. The Space Between focuses on a father who finds out his newborn child isn’t his. He sets out on a journey that will redefine what fatherhood really is to him, and the so far the movie has received plenty of love at festivals around the country.
