Newly appointed director of the Han Solo spin-off Ron Howard continues to tease and torment fans with his behind-the-scenes looks of the film, but we are finally given a substantial look at one of the lead characters. Taking to Twitter, Howard shared a photo of Chewbacca, played by Joonas Suotamo, checking out footage of a scene on the director’s monitors.

One reason this shot is exciting is because Howard has previously only shown trash cans, bottles of water, and some pieces of a character’s wardrobe, so to see Chewbacca in all of his glory immediately heightens our anticipation of the film. Although seeing Chewbacca in costume is thrilling in it of itself, for those eagle-eyed fans willing to take a closer look at what the Wookiee is looking at, we can make a few predictions about what scene was just shot.

Looking closely at the monitor in the top right of the photo, we can see the silhouettes of two figures, apparently both Wookiees, closely embracing one another. It’s tough to say exactly what the embrace could represent, as it could be of the romantic nature or of a family nature, but either of these explanations could prove interesting for the upcoming film.
The upcoming film will, of course, be focusing on Han Solo’s early years, but to learn about Han is to learn about Chewie, as they have a long-standing friendship with one another.

In drafts of Revenge of the Sith, George Lucas wrote scenes where a 10-year-old Han Solo aided the Wookiees on Kashyyyk, with Chewbacca being a caretaker of sorts. It’s unclear just how young we’ll see Han in the new film, but it’s possible we’ll get an opening scene similar to one we saw in Rogue One, which establishes what the character’s life was like at an early age.
The untitled Han Solo film is slated to hit theaters May 25, 2018.
The Han Solo movie is being produced by Lucasfilm from a screenplay by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan and will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the second standalone Star Wars movie following Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016.
Set prior to the events of Han Solo’s first appearance in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, the film stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo. The film is said to show how Han Solo and Chewbacca, first met Lando Calrissian, played by Glover.
Filming on the Han Solo movie began in January 2017 with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directing. Principal photography began at Pinewood Studios in February. Lord and Miller left the Han Solo movie in June, having reportedly been fired over creative differences. Ron Howard will come on as the director to see the production to completion.
