Force Friday II saw the release of a ton of collectibles, toys, and multimedia products tied into the upcoming Star Wars movie, featuring the return of fan-favorite character Luke Skywalker. Some of the new items include new Star Wars novels, such as Leia: Princess of Alderaan and Phasma, by Claudia Gray and Delilah S. Dawson respectively.

To promote the release of their new books in the Star Wars universe, authors Gray and Dawson attended a book-launching event where they unveiled some new information about their stories.

During the event, Gray revealed that the Star Wars Story Group wasn’t allowing writers to explore the events after the Battle of Jakku. The news was captured by StarWars.com writer Bryan Young.

Gray previously wrote a book called Lost Stars, released as part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The young adult novel focused on two friends from an Outer Rim planet that comes under control of the Empire. The two love to fly, so they join the Imperial Academy as pilots. When one learns of the Imperial’s awful tactics and brutal regime, they defect and join the Rebellion, leaving the other with a hard choice.

That story ends shortly after the Battle of Jakku, so Gray is waiting for the Story Group to allow writers to explore those vents before she is able to write a sequel.

It remains to be seen why the Story Group is keeping that era closed off from contributions. There could be a spinoff movie in development, it could be the setting for the next animated series following Star Wars Rebels‘ final season, maybe its as simple as the Story Group still figuring the timeline out.

Gray’s explanation makes sense, though, as we’ve yet to see any substantial media explore the era of the Star Wars galaxy after the Empire’s demise in Jakku. That event leads to the creation of the First Order, a moment that is still shrouded in mystery.

Hopefully we learn more about the evil faction’s origin when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters.
