Mads Mikkelsen Weighs In On Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Reshoots

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens having exceeded expectations last December, fans were excited to hear that Disney/Lucasfilms would be releasing a spin-off film of the franchise entitled Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, with news surfacing that the film would be undergoing reshoots, fans were worried that Rogue One might be in trouble.

Rumors spread quickly, all varying in story as some sources claimed that up to half the film would be reshot while others reminded fans that reshoots were normal for big-budget films.

While the film has no doubt benefited from the publicity following the reshoot's announcement, fans have been waiting on-edge for word on whether their fears regarding Rogue One were founded. Speaking with The Independent, actor Mads Mikkelson spoke out about the reshoots to the delight of fans.

Mads Mikkelsen, who is allegedly starring as the father of Rogue One’s protagonist Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), said the film’s director Gareth Edwards is just wanting to polish an already promising film.

When asked about the mixed reactions to the reshoot, Mads said, “Basically, all the big films I have done always have reshoots, it is part of their budget. They’re either not super happy with a scene bit, the way we were acting, or maybe there’s something they want to add. It’s not a new thing, it happens with every film. Whether it’s bigger or less, I have no idea, I have nothing to compare with. It’s the same film, it’s just adding little bits here and there to do the final polishing. That’s my feeling.”

Mads Mikkelsen went on to talk about his own minor involvement with the six-week reshoot by saying, “I have one day. I can’t remember when, in two weeks I think.”

With Mads starring in Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange, the actor’s schedule is sure to get busy as the Danish actor promotes the two studio films. However, his thoughts regarding Rogue One might bring comfort to diehard Star Wars fan who have been worried about the spin-off.

For now, it seems like fans will have to wait until Rogue One: A Star Wars Story releases on December 16th to see what the film will offer.
