Rogue One: A Star Wars Story began development through some pretty unique means. The first concept for the film was courtesy of John Knoll, visual effects supervisor and CCO of Industrial Light and Magic, who first pitched the idea over a decade prior. Knoll went on to serve as visual effects supervisor and executive producer on the film, even earning a writing credit as well.

Now that Rogue One has seen the light of day, Knoll recently admitted that he’s not quite done with ideas for the Star Wars universe. Knoll revealed to ScreenRant that he is currently developing an idea for another standalone film.

“I do have one more idea that I may or may not pitch. I’ve got it about 3/4 figured out.”

While Knoll was very vague on the details, he admitted that the concept might not become a reality depending on the response from LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

“If I can solve that last portion of it, I’ll see if Kathy’s interested.” He explained, before jokingly adding. “She may throw me out of her office.”

Given Knoll’s personal connection to the larger Star Wars franchise, it makes sense that he would have his own ideas to help further develop the universe. It’s safe to assume that the characters in it wouldn’t be the ones featured in Rogue One, although that’s certainly something that has been suggested by the film’s cast. Both Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk have recently expressed interest in a solo movie about Cassian Andor and K-2SO.

It’s unclear exactly what Knoll’s second concept would be, and whether or not it would involve established characters or events from the already-released Star Wars films. Taking the increasingly expansive nature of the franchise into consideration, there’s certainly a significant amount that Knoll could be inspired by.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will hit Digital HD on March 24 and then Blu-ray and DVD on April 4.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, it’s the first of the new standalone features from Lucasfilm and Disney, which take place outside the core “Skywalker Saga” of films noted by an Episode number. Rogue One tells the story of the small band of rebels that were tasked with stealing the plans to the first Death Star.
