Thanks to the recent surge of Star Wars comics, we’ve seen fan-favorite characters go on missions we never knew about and have met all-new characters that have developed devoted followings. One of those new characters was just introduced in Darth Vader #2, a Jedi by the name of KirakInfil’a, with the stage being set for an epic confrontation between Sith and Jedi.

According to the issue’s solicitation description:

“The most fearsome villain of all time returns with an all-new series! When Anakin Skywalker fell, both to the pull of the dark side and to the blade of Obi-Wan Kenobi, he rose back up, more machine than man. Having lost everything that was once dear to him, the former chosen one must take his first steps into a darker worldโ€ฆas Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith! Join Vader as he learns a new way โ€“ the way of Darth Sidious and his newly formed Empireโ€ฆthe way of the dark side.”

The series is set after Revenge of the Sith, with Vader having to prove himself as a worthy adversary and weapon of the Sith.

With the second issue, Vader is tasked with seeking out a Jedi’s lightsaber so it may be stolen and reconstructed into a weapon for the Sith. Considering the Sith Lord had most of the Jedi killed during the events of Revenge of the Sith, this mission is easier said than done.

According to the comic, Kirak Infil’a has been pretty inactive in recent years, which will make Vader’s hunt all the more difficult. Through the magic of comics, however, we get a glimpse of the Jedi on the final page.

The new series has only been two issues, but it appears to be setting the stage for an epic duel, as the cover for issue #3 teases.

This series is written by Charles Soule with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli.

During a recent appearance on ABC News, Soule confirmed that this upcoming duel won’t be contained to just one issue, but will stretch over several, hinting at the ensuing carnage.

The writer also implied that this new Jedi is considered the equivalent of Darth Vader, but for the Jedi, so don’t expect KirakInfil’a to go down without a fight.

The third issue of Darth Vader will be on sale in July.
